This is a sample of one of our Hillcrest Adventure Time newsletters:

WELCOME TO HILLCREST A.T.!

Did you wonder, in the middle of summer vacation, what "everybody else" was doing? Well, your chance to find out had arrived. School started on a Thursday and for two days you could ask all kinds of questions. Then Monday was a holiday and that let everybody get a jump on things for Tuesday, September 3.

Every Picture Tells a story, Doesn't It? Week of September 3. Hi! "Who are you?" Come share photographs of you, your family, your pets, your summer vacation adventures. This helped us get to know each other better. Adventure Time at Hillcrest, welcome back all. returning staff and students, and all newcomers: All emergency packets are due this week, for the health and safety and peace of mind for all. Head teacher Jeri will be available for all questions.

Total Recall, September 9-13. That week brought back some of those memories and put into practice Adventure Time rules and manners. Children were given mini- refresher courses on where to store their lunches and backpacks, yard etiquette and the likes, to avoid rudeness, misunderstandings, misconduct (and such), and encourage good habits, routine, politeness, and common sense. Welcome back, Mary Ellen! We look forward to your Tuesday and Thursday stays with us.

Things You Will Need to Know, September 16-20. By then, things were running smoothly. That was the time for schedule change adjustments and fine-tuning. Children and staff were arranging seating for a quick roll call, announcements, and snack. Please remember no toys from home, and mark all your child's belongings so we can swiftly return any misplaced items. The game shelves and bookshelves are full of choices, and the staff will offer choices in sports and games, music and drama, free play and organized games, and sewing and crafts.

Batteries Not Included, September 23-27. We offered personalized tours through the wonderful world of books, crafts, board games, coloring media, cooking, sports, and journal writing (collections) throughout the week. Our A.T. garden will get its annual brush-up for fall, and we will collaborate on spring planting ideas with the kids.

The Pursuit of Happiness, September 30, October 1-4. Does money buy happiness? Ask any child and he or she will say YES! How to spend and save wisely for the pursuit of happiness is a lifelong skill. Just like the old saying, "He who puts himself through school, never faileth," also applies to children and adults when it comes to material goods! Allow humans to learn the art of working and planning and holding off instant gratification so the glow of the prize is appreciated and savored. Hillcrest Adventure Time is proud in offering unique and individualized attention to children so that we may encourage them to grow and breathe. How we treat ourselves, our environment, and our community depends on AWARENESS. Help us continue this quality of life by setting good examples by word and deed.

Stories and Story Time, October 7-11. It is always much easier to remember something if the story was good! Some of our best memories carried through adulthood will be of the classics and of some unique tales told to us. Come enjoy the magnitude of the library and the computer. Earth's four seasons:
How do the seasons affect how we eat, what we wear, how we feel, and where we decide to live? The world is a fast-paced place but there is only one planet Earth. How do animals survive and live in different regions? How do mass populations get along if mother nature decides to throw a wrench into the works (monsoon, heat wave, and other extreme weather, or Earth's crust and ocean floor upheaval)? We have questions! Let's find answers.

Where in the World?, October 21-25. Maps and globes, here we come!! Since food comes from around the world...let‚s try to find some of these places! October 24th is United Nations Day. How can individuals and groups promote international world peace? What does this mean to us? What do animals need to live in peace?

Under a Star-y Sky, October 28-31.

Sincerely,
Jeri, Mary Ellen, Kim, Tamla, Taynesha, Veronica, Ama, San, Cathy, and Lisa
